Director of Research, Training and Development

Professor James Ntiamoah Doku is an accomplished Finance scholar and researcher with over 15 years of university teaching, research, community service and academic leadership experience in Ghana and beyond. Currently an Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), he is recognized for his cutting-edge research in banking sector development, corporate governance, sustainable finance, and financial inclusion across emerging economies. His scholarly contributions span over 30 peer-reviewed publications, including articles in prestigious journals such as the African Finance Journal, African Development Review, Journal of International Development, and Cogent Economics & Finance. Professor Doku’s works have deepened the understanding of how institutional quality, digital finance, and governance mechanisms shape growth and inclusion in Sub-Saharan Africa’s financial landscape. An award-winning researcher and mentor, Professor Doku was honoured by the CFA Institute Research Challenge (2022) as an Outstanding Faculty Advisor and received the Wiley/African Development Review Top Downloaded Paper Award (2019). He attended international and national conferences where he presented papers as well as a panel or sessional chairman.

Professor Doku’s academic vision integrates rigorous empirical inquiry with policy relevance. His leadership in curriculum design—including the development of a PhD in Finance and a Global MBA in Entrepreneurship and Innovation—reflects a passion for building the next generation of finance professionals. Driven by the teaching philosophy of a student-centered approach, insightful, and globally engaged, Professor Doku stands out as a thought leader advancing sustainable finance, innovation, and institutional accountability in Africa’s financial systems.

My Expertise & Skills

Beyond academia, he serves as Director of the Centre for Public Accountability (CPA–UPSA) and External Examiner and Assessor for multiple Ghanaian universities, contributing significantly to quality assurance and doctoral supervision across the tertiary sector. He also serves as the Director for Research, Training, and Development (DRTD) for Graduates and Professionals of the Ga-Dangme Network (GPGD-Network), a community-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to transforming communities through education, professional development, and collaborative empowerment.

Currently, he leads a team of GPGD executives in partnership with Plan International (PI) to execute the Ghana Education Outcome Project (GEOP-LOT 7A), which seeks to identify, recruit, and reintegrate Out-of-School Children (OOSC) into the mainstream educational system in selected Municipalities of Greater Accra in Ghana.
